McKelle Skirvin, Motherfed’s student intern, is a former client who developed an initial interest in lactation when her sister breastfed twins in 2014. Three years later, she began her breastfeeding journey with her daughter who was born premature. She welcomed her second child in 2021 who she is currently nursing. Since becoming a mother, she has developed a love for the nursing relationship and is an advocate for breastfeeding/pumping/postpartum parents. McKelle loves supporting parents with breastfeeding challenges and learning from the IBCLCs at Motherfed.
McKelle has personal experience with:
- latch difficulties
- oral aversion, breast and bottle refusal
- oral restrictions
- nursing distractible babies
- oversupply
- anxiety associated with feeding
- donating milk through informal milk sharing
- breastfeeding/pumping for her baby in the NICU
McKelle studied Health Promotion and Education at the University of Utah, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and currently works as a NICU Clinical Diet Tech at Primary Children’s Hospital. Her personal passions include XC skiing, hiking, backpacking, biking, knitting, reading self-help and parenting books, and traveling.
